Sahih Fabrication Mentioned in the Quran

Traditionalists often boast about how hadiths are older than Bukhari and friends. Some even point out that they were being circulated even when Prophet Muhammad was alive. Believe it or not, Quran confirms it, but with a twist. Just see it below:

O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, and from among the Jews. [They are] avid listeners to falsehood, listening to another people who have not come to you. They distort words beyond their usages, saying "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware." But he for whom Allah intends fitnah - never will you possess [power to do] for him a thing against Allah . Those are the ones for whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment. 5:41

Points to note down:

  • There were believers who believed only with their mouth. Their hearts rejected the message. Others were from the Jewish community.
  • They used to listen false claims from people who actually never met the Prophet.
  • The false claims were distorted. Allah gives an example of this:They distort words beyond their usages, saying "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware".
The example matches a part of 59:7 which Bukharian industry uses to justify the use of hadiths in Islam. Take a look:
And what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

You are going to find this in Shafi's book also. These people never mention that the line is attached to spoils of the war. But it is pretty clear that even Prophet Muhammad regretted how these hadithers rejected the truth.
